Vincent Darré Infuses Parisian Chic into L’Aventure Hotel

Parisian design just received a vibrant injection of personality thanks to Vincent Darré, the celebrated French designer tapped to create the guest rooms at L’Aventure, the newest boutique hotel overlooking the Arc de Triomphe. Darré, known for his playfully eclectic interiors and a background honed under the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, has transformed the 15 rooms into a celebration of Parisian living, a concept the hotel’s owners, Gilbert and Thierry Costes, envisioned from the outset.

L’Aventure’s story began long before its hotel incarnation, rooted in a legendary subterranean nightclub of the 1980s that drew a fashionable crowd from the art, music, fashion, and society worlds. The Costes brothers initially revived this spirit with the launch of the L’Aventure restaurant and members’ club last year, a space meticulously designed by Martin Brudnizki with a decadent aesthetic of velvet and glittering mosaics. The hotel, now unveiled in March, represents the next chapter in this narrative.

Darré’s approach was inspired by a broad range of artistic disciplines—architecture, theater, music, literature, painting, and gastronomy—resulting in each of the hotel’s rooms possessing a unique color palette and theme. He’s incorporated whimsical, hand-sketched “serigraphies” on the paneled walls, creating a distinctive artistic touch. “All the headboards, banquettes, and chairs are covered in the colors of the room,” Darré explains, seamlessly blending new upholstered furnishings with carefully sourced vintage pieces to evoke the feeling of a private Parisian mansion.

Paying homage to the iconic David Hicks, a celebrated 1970s designer, Darré has woven recurring motifs of the sun and moon throughout the hotel. Each door features a metal sun etched with the room number, while the keyholes are shaped like moons. These celestial symbols also appear on wall lights, vases, and within the graphics Darré created for L’Aventure, including the logo, menus, and signage, creating a cohesive visual identity across the hotel’s spaces. Guests can now enjoy a leisurely brunch with classic Parisian views, followed by evening drinks or a lively dinner, and conclude with dancing downstairs—all within the same vibrant setting.

“I feel that we have forgotten a bit the art of receiving and entertaining in Paris,” Darré remarked, emphasizing his desire to recapture a bygone era of Parisian hospitality. “Visitors to L’Aventure are given a key to a Parisian apartment to enjoy and to celebrate this style of living that I wanted to bring back, right in front of the Arc de Triomphe.”
